
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Hau Khan Sum attended the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on the Situation in the Middle East which was held on 13 March 2026 via videoconference.
During the Special Meeting, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, its impact on ASEAN, and the possible ways forward. The Permanent Secretary shared Myanmar’s deep concern over the escalation of conflict in the Middle East and stressed that durable solution to the conflicts requires constructive dialogue and sustained diplomatic efforts based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence. While emphasizing the importance of upholding mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each and every country, he called on all parties concerned to deescalate the conflict and address the situation through peaceful means.
