Myanmar will not accept any pressure or interference that infringes upon its sovereignty (2-4-2026, Nay Pyi Taw)

The Human Rights Council held the 61st regular session from 23 February to 31 March 2026, in Geneva.

During the session, it was observed that in the absence of the country concerned, Myanmar, an interactive dialogue on the Oral Update by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as an interactive dialogue on the report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, were held. Furthermore, the resolution entitled “Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar”, tabled by the European Union, was also adopted on 31 March 2026.

In light of such proceedings, it is clearly evident that the Human Rights Council, the principal UN mechanism for the promotion and protection of human rights, is failing to review the human rights situation of a member state in an objective and impartial manner. It is disappointing to observe that the discussions were based on unfounded information obtained from anti-government organizations, which fail to reflect the actual situation on the ground.

Nevertheless, Myanmar will steadfastly continue to work towards internal peace, stability, and prosperity, as well as the protection of the fundamental rights and interests of its citizens, through a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned process.

Therefore, Myanmar categorically rejects all baseless accusations and intrusive discussions that infringe upon and interfere in its internal affairs.

The Government of Myanmar appreciates the friendly countries that upheld a balanced position during the 61st session of the Human Right Council. While Myanmar maintains its willingness to cooperate with the United Nations, the State reaffirms that it will not accept any form of undue pressure or interference that undermines its sovereignty.
