
Myanmar delegation led by U Hau Khan Sum, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar participated in the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings held in Cebu, the Philippines, from 7 to 8 May 2026.
The ASEAN Summit discussed and exchanged views on various issues including ensuring the regional energy security and resilience, stabilizing food security, safety of ASEAN nationals in the Middle East, ASEAN’s capacity to manage and mitigate the impacts of oil supply and price volatility arising from geopolitical tensions, and lessons learned from the recent geopolitical crisis as well as current status and developments in ASEAN’s external relations.
During the Summit, the head of Myanmar delegation discussed and exchanged views on matters related the strengthening ASEAN cooperation on regional energy and food security, as well as Myanmar’s participation in the ASEAN Community-building efforts. Furthermore, he updated the meeting on the political developments in Myanmar including the key priorities of the newly elected Government.
Prior to the Summit, the Myanmar delegation participated in the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, 31st ASEAN Political-Security Community Council Meeting, 38th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting, and the Joint ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ and Economic Ministers’ Meeting on 7 May 2026.
The Philippines chaired the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings under the theme of “Navigating Our Future, Together”. As the outcome of the Summit, a total of 18 documents including strengthening the cooperation in the areas of maritime, food and energy security, migrant workers, climate change and disaster resilience were noted, issued and adopted.
