Press Statement (Nay Pyi Taw, 25 June 2023)

Press Statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has learnt that the Joint Statement from the
United States and India released on 22 June 2023 mentioned about the situation in
Myanmar.
In this regard, the Ministry wishes to underscores that the incumbent
Government which has been vested three pillars of powers by the State Constitution
(2008) has taken legal actions against only those who have been found guilty of
committing crimes or terrorist acts in accordance with the existing laws. As such,
there is no one who has been detained arbitrarily in Myanmar.
The State Administration Council (SAC) has been exerting its utmost efforts to
build a Union based on democracy and federalism aiming to fulfill the aspiration of
Myanmar people which is one of the objectives of the Five-Point Road Map of the
SAC. The Government has enacted Political Parties Registration Law in January
2023 paving the way for all inclusive political process. The Government has also
invited opposition groups and opponents to return to the legal fold in order to resume
their normal lives. The inclusive political process is open for anyone who genuinely
wishes to participate through multiparty democratic election in a peaceful and legal
manner. The SAC has already committed to hold a free and fair multi-party
democratic election in line with the 2008 Constitution upon accomplishing the
provisions of the state of emergency.
In this respect, over the past two years, the Government has conducted 106
rounds of peace talks with Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) while over 62,818
prisoners were granted amnesties. From 2 February 2021 to date, a total of 59
prisoners who were serving death sentences were commuted to life imprisonment.
The Ministry, therefore, seeks understanding, support, and constructive
cooperation of the international community to the Government’s efforts to build a
Union based on democracy and federalism as well as condemnation to terrorism in
all its forms and manifestation to ensure peace and stability, and development in
Myanmar.
