U Tin Maung Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, who is on an official visit to Myanmar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the evening of 25 April 2026.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to further strengthening of the “Pauk-Phaw” relations between Myanmar and China, the building of a Community with a Shared Future, and the momentous acceleration of existing friendly ties and practical cooperation. They also exchanged views on continued cooperation to maintain peace and stability along the shared border, China’s support for the Myanmar’s peace process and socio-economic development, and increased cooperation based on good neighbourliness in combating online scamming and illegal activities in border areas. Both sides further emphasized mutual support in regional and international arenas and reaffirmed their commitment in promoting mutually beneficial cooperation.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe expressed his appreciation to China for China’s consistent support to Myanmar and its assistance to Myanmar. He stated Myanmar’s support to “One China Policy”, four global initiatives proposed by Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping and four propositions on safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. He underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries. He conveyed gratitude for China’s assistance in earthquake recovery efforts. He requested China’s continued support on Myanmar’s peace process and peace and stability in border areas as well as social economic development of people in the border areas. He reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to continue cooperation with China in regional and international fora.
Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi congratulated Myanmar on the successful holding of the General Election and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to visit Myanmar shortly after the formation of the new government led by President U Min Aung Hlaing. He stated that China would continue to support Myanmar’s peace process and remain a reliable neighbour upon which Myanmar can depend, based on the “Pauk-Phaw” friendship. He expressed willingness for closer cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries and affirmed that continued efforts would be made to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two nations. He also stated that both sides would strive to effectively implement the agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors, and accelerate and expand the implementation of bilateral projects.
After the meeting, in the presence of the Foreign Ministers, the exchange of the handover and acceptance certificate for the China-aided emergency project on post-earthquake prefabricated resettlement housing for monks, nuns, and their monasteries affected by the Mandalay earthquake, as well as the exchange of the Memorandum of Understanding between Myanmar Space Agency (MSA) and the China National Space Administration (CNSA) on cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space, took place.
Subsequently, U Tin Maung Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs hosted a dinner to the Chinese delegation led by Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China at the Jasmine Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
