Malaysia, as the ASEAN Chair, Hosts the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits with Participation from Myanmar Delegation (25-10-2025, Kuala Lumpur)

Malaysia, as the Chair of ASEAN, is hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 25 to 29 October 2025.
 
At the invitation of the Malaysian Government, Myanmar delegation led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the meetings.
 
On 25 October 2025, ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting and Joint ASEAN Foreign Ministers and ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting were held.
 
These meetings discussed and exchanged views on ASEAN Community-building efforts, Implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, Review on the ASEAN’s external relations and Future Direction, the accession of Timor-Leste as a member of ASEAN and Coordination between the Political-Security and Economic communities of ASEAN.
 
During the meetings, the head of the Myanmar Delegation stated that Myanmar had fully cooperated in the process of ASEAN Community Building. He also affirmed Myanmar’s commitment to continue contributing to the realization of ASEAN Vision 2025 and to fully cooperate toward the implementation of ASEAN Vision 2045.
 
Furthermore, the head of the Myanmar Delegation stressed that the Myanmar government, based on its national priorities and on-the-ground realities, had engaged in implementing the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus. He informed the attendees that a free, fair, and inclusive multi-party general election that reflects the desire of the people would be held in the near future, with observers from ASEAN and the international community invited to ensure transparency and public trust.
 
On ASEAN external relations, the Myanmar delegate highlighted Myanmar’s current role as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Russia relations, and elaborated on Myanmar’s active efforts to enhance collaboration between ASEAN and Russia.
 
In addition, Myanmar, as a member committed to regional integration and peace, welcomed Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN, and expressed its willingness to cooperate in building the ASEAN Community together.
 
In the ASEAN Foreign and Economic Ministers’ Joint Meeting, Head of the Myanmar Delegation emphasized that economic development is a crucial pillar for regional integration and resilience. He proposed enhanced coordination between the ASEAN Political-Security Community and the ASEAN Economic Community to support ASEAN’s long-term goals.
